One teenage youth was discovered deceased only a few days after being wrongly blamed of stealing the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Start

The investigation heard how his parent got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the media, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later determined the supposed break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said property was not taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed taken ashes generated online responses, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Health Impact

She added that her son had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the time of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son told her he had gone into the house because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that one young adult urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "family is totally shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The hearing heard from educational staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "heard some students talking that the student had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she called the family's family landline and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court learned his parents said they did not got that message.

Formal Finding

Lead coroner informed the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Likely untruths were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his questioning he was released whilst inquiries proceeded."

The coroner concluded: "There is no proof that the actions or failures of any organization led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a personal action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
